FAQ

What types of work can I submit?

We currently accept poetry and creative nonfiction submissions for publication.

Submissions should suit the issue’s chosen theme. Theme information for the current issue can be found under the submissions tab.

What are the word count limits for submissions?

CNF submissions should ideally be 1000 words or less. However, if you feel passionately about a piece that fits the chosen theme and falls outside of this guideline, state your case in your submission email and we’ll see what we can do.

Poems may be any length (within reason).

How many poems can I submit at a time?

Up to 4 poems may be submitted per issue.

Where can I submit?

During open submission periods, submissions may be sent to bivouacmag@gmail.com in a Word document.

What should I include along with my submission file?

Please include a short cover letter/note to us, as well as a short bio and the name with which you’d like your work accredited if accepted (or let us know if you’d like to remain anonymous).

Do you accept previously published submissions?

At this time we prioritize previously unpublished work.

Do you accept simultaneous submissions?

Absolutely. Just let us know if your piece has been published elsewhere and/or if you’d like to withdraw your submission.

What are my rights once I’ve been accepted?

You retain all rights to your work. We are print only and prefer that pieces aren’t posted in full online after publication.

Do you pay?

We pay $20 per accepted writer, typically via Venmo or personal check.

Do you offer contributor copies?

Because our magazine is handmade and very labor-intensive to create, we unfortunately can’t offer free contributor copies to our writers at this time.

However, if your work has been accepted and you would prefer a copy of the magazine in lieu of the $20 cash payment, let us know and we can work something out.

Can I submit early/late?

Submissions received before or after the dates of our open call will not be considered for publication and will not receive responses.

Are you accepting chapbook/manuscript submissions?

Not yet, but we are hoping to in the near future. Check our Twitter page for our latest updates.

Where can I buy the magazine?

Copies of previous issues can be purchased on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/BivouacMagazine?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=1348376805

What if I have a question that’s not listed here?
